help me with this geometry problem [closed]

Let S1 and S2 be two circles intersecting at points A and B. Let C and D be points on S1 and S2 respectively such that line CD is tangent to both circles and A is closer to line CD than B. If \BCA = 52 and \BDA = 32, determine the degree measure of \CBD.

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

Please do not answer this question until after the OMO has ended (Jan. 15th)! It creates an unfair advantage for a great contest based entirely on the honor system.

If you'd like to see other questions, here's a copy of the current OMO.

This thread is now closed for commenting. In the spirit of our rules that ask you not to use our website to cheat on you're homework, we consider it implicit that you should not use this community to cheat on a contest based on honor. This would be a decent place to discuss interesting problems from the OMO AFTER the open is concluded, and it is no longer cheating.

Here's a hint: [Edited out by Peter]

How many problems has your team done so far? This is problem #16 on the current OMO contest...

Thanks for pointing this out Alan and Eli. We do not condone such dishonest behavior.

If you notice anyone that's not acting with integrity, please do not hesitate to bring it to our attention.
