I believe you guys have an incorrect solution to this problem

Main post link -> https://brilliant.org/i/VlW6ES/

Assuming the cats initial velocity is 2 m/s 45 degrees above the horizontal, I am certain that the correct answer is t = [edited out - David] seconds, and your solution does not match that. Perhaps I misunderstood the problem, and if I have, then I have to admit that the wording of it is slightly ambiguous.

This discussion board is a place to discuss our Daily Challenges and the math and science related to those challenges. Explanations are more than just a solution — they should explain the steps and thinking strategies that you used to obtain the solution. Comments should further the discussion of math and science.

When posting on Brilliant:

  • Use the emojis to react to an explanation, whether you're congratulating a job well done , or just really confused .
  • Ask specific questions about the challenge or the steps in somebody's explanation. Well-posed questions can add a lot to the discussion, but posting "I don't understand!" doesn't help anyone.
  • Try to contribute something new to the discussion, whether it is an extension, generalization or other idea related to the challenge.
  • Stay on topic — we're all here to learn more about math and science, not to hear about your favorite get-rich-quick scheme or current world events.

[Edited out - David] is actually the correct answer!! (exact answer being [Edited out - David]) Probably you did a typing error while giving answer.

The issue has already been corrected. Please do not post answers or suggested answers on this forum however, as there are lots of people still trying to solve the problems!

David Mattingly Staff - 8 years, 3 months ago

Ok sir. Sorry for that...

It's all good. We always want students to feel empowered to ask 'is this right?'. And, sometimes we make mistakes too. However, we also try to ensure that everyone gets a fair shake at the problems.
