The structure of ethene is C H 2 = C H 2 CH_{2}=CH_{2}

Thus, it is clearly visible that it has 4 single bonds and 1 double bond leading to

4σ(sigma) bonds from 4 single bonds .

and

1σ(sigma) bond and 1π(pi) bond from the double bond.

Thus sum of the sigma and the pi bonds present in ethene is 5σ + 1π = 6 \boxed{6}

We only had to find the total number of bonds.
