1000 = 5 x 5 x 5 x 2 x 2 x 2 = 5 x 5 x 5 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 1 x 1 x 1 x ..... 994 1's

So their minimum sum is 5x3 + 2x3 + 1x994 = 1015

Why must that be the minimum?

Because sum of the number is minimum when their difference is less.

Sir, because the sum is minimum when each one of them has the lowest possible value. So when u prime factorise it, each number takes the lowest possible value which satisfies the condition of minimum sum.

Can't it be 1000 1 1 1 1...999 1's And hence minimum sum can be 1001

According 2 u, the sum is 1000 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 +....999 ones = 1999. This is not the minimum.
