Four 1-cm cubes are joined face-to-face in all possible ways to form geometric solids. Two such solids are considered the same if one can be obtained from the other by rotation. How many such solids are possible?

This is the number of one-sided tetracubes , which is 8: the usual five tetrominoes, plus a three-legged T-like piece, plus a 3D snake in two orientations ("normal" and flipped).

I think the answer is 12 because I make all possible combinations

Then you're counting too many; a lot of them can be rotated around to give other shapes.
