6 places backwards, one forwards

I am first in a race out of 100 cars. I move 6 places backwards, then one forwards. Then, my engine stutters and I end up 52nd. How many cars went past me from when my engine turns off and I finish (assuming that no one passes me anymore)?


The answer is 46.

I end up 6th first. Then 46 cars passed me and I end up 52nd. How sad :-(
