We would add the inverse of the time taken and then use the reciprocal as the result . 1/5+1/6= 11/30, now take its reciprocal ie. 30/11. This is your final answer.

why we are doing inverse this?

We will inverse this because it is a work-time problem. Hence, if a man does a work in 5 hours, he would do 1/5 work in 1 hour. Same for the other. Hence the solution 1/5+1/6=11/30. Therefore, they will complete 11/30th of the work in 1 hour. Hence, they would finish the work in 30/11 hours.

Speed of Jack to mow one garden = 1 Lawn/ 6 hrs
Speed of Marilyn to mow one garden = 1 Lawn/ 5 hrs
Thus, speed with which they work together = 1/5 + 1/6
= 11 lawns /30 Hrs
So, they can mow 1 lawn in 30/11 hrs. Which is 2.73.
Ans: 2.73

1/5 + 1/6 = 1/X

11/30 =1/X

X=2.73

1/6+1/5=11/30 , thus 11/30=x hour ; x hour = 30/11 => aproc. 2,73 hours.

A can do 1/6 th of the work in 1 hr. B can do 1/5th of the work in 1 hr. (1/6 + 1/5) = 11/30 . Time taken by them will be 30/11 = 2.73 hrs
