A bat and ball cost $1.10. If the bat costs $1 more than then ball, how much does the ball cost?

Level 2

First of all the bat cost $1 more then the ball. Ultimately you would think that the ball costs 10 cents because ($1+$0.10=$1.10). This is wrong because if the ball costs 10 cents then 1 dollar more then 10 cents would be $1.10. So ($1.10+$0.10=$1.20). Thus, the ball costs 5 cents. (1.05+0.05=1.10)

The answer is 5.
