I3- is a trigonal bipyramidal molecule with 3 lone pairs.

As per bent's rule, the lone pairs occupy equatorial positions.

So, the Iodines occupy central atom position and 2 axial positions and hence the bond angle is 180 degrees.

When you see the molecular geometry of a triiodide ion you can see that it is linear in shape so the bond angle is 18 0 o 180^{o}
