We have, u = 0 \displaystyle u=0 , g = 9.8 \displaystyle g=9.8 , h = 19.6 \displaystyle h=19.6 .

From the second equation of motion, we have 19.6 = 1 2 × 9.8 × t 2 t = 2 \displaystyle \implies 19.6=\frac{1}{2} \times 9.8 \times t^{2} \implies t=2

Clearly, distance covered in the last half seconds = h 2 h 1.5 \displaystyle = h_{2}-h_{1.5} , which on evaluating, we have 8.575 as the final answer.
