John is tossing two independent fair 6-sided dice simultaneously. John said that the sum of two dice is 7 . Given this information, what is the probability that the first dice is 4?

If 1 die rolls x, the other must roll 7-x. This is possible for all x from 1 to 6. So the problem just reduces to the probability of rolling a 4 on 1 die, 1/6.

cases can be: 1,6 2,5 3,4 4,3 5,2 6,1 so the probability is 1 / 6.
