Let x x be the cost of pencil and y y be the cost of notebook. Therefore,

x + y = 11 x + 10 = y x − y = − 10 2 x = 1 x = 0.5 x+y=11\\ \\ x+10=y\\ x-y=-10\\ \\ 2x=1\\ x=0.5
