This is simple problem. The first answer is 9 as that is the only odd number. The second answer is 8 as that is the only number that does not have a round number for a square root. Also, if you think 36 you can try it as there are 3 attempts. You then add everything up.

1st number which is really an odd number-9

2nd which is not a perfect square-8

9+8=17

Isn't 36 a two digit number while others are 1-digit?

yes i got wrong answer in first attempt because 36 is a 2 digit number,you should write add 3 number

YES,it can be but I thought of perfect square numbers.You are not wrong but since there are 3 attempts to solve the question you can try more than one time and get the required answer.Sir,I am also coming to Kota next year:)
