A cool easy problem 2

A piece of wire of resistance 4 ohm is bent through 180˚ at its midpoint and the two halves are twisted togeher , then the resistance is 'x'. FIND 'x'

4 ohm 3 ohm 1 ohm 2 ohm

original length =x
wire is bent 180degrees
therefore its length is halved
new length------1/2x
therefore
new resistance= 4/2x2=1ohm

but it is just twisted, not joined so resistance should remain same

when the wire is twisted
through its midpoint ,
length becomes halved and area of cross section becomes double
now since resistance depends on area of cross section ,
it will alter
increase in cross section area leads to decrease in resistance

i think you must be knowing all this.........
