A child 1.2 meters tall is standing 11 meters away from a tall building . A spot light on the ground is located 20 meters away from the building and shines on the wall . How tall is the child's shadow on the building


The answer is 2.67.

Triangles △ A B C \triangle ABC and △ D E C \triangle DEC are similar, therefore

x 20 = 1.2 20 − 11 \dfrac {x}{20}=\dfrac{1.2}{20-11}

This results in x = 1.2 × 20 9 = 2.667 x=1.2\times\dfrac{20}{9}=\boxed{2.667}
