5+x/2=8/2 =>5+x=8 =>x=8-5 =>x=3

At first sight it looked 5 + x 2 = 8 2 5 + \dfrac{x}{2} = \dfrac{8}{2}

Where is geometry?

Yes, it's true. A request to the person who set this question to please change the wording and make it more geometry like. Something along the lines of "Find the mid-point of...." would suit the question better.
