The two circles below are concentric (have same center). The radius of the large circle is 10 and that of the small circle is 6. What is the length of the chord AB?

AB is the tangent of the smaller circle, so the radius will be perpendicular. We would join the center and the point A to get the radius of the bigger circle. It forms a a right angled triangle; so we can find the other side. similarly it is on the opposite side. It turns out that the measure of AB is 16 units.
