assuming the third of the job done by 40 people in 30 days and we need to complete it in the next 20 days (not very clear stated), since we need more 60 days to complete the job by 40 people, we need 120 people to do it in 20 days, therefore 80 more people must add

Sanjay's approach to this problem is:

It takes 40 people 90 days to complete the job.So you need 90 * 2 people to complete the job in 50 days.Since there are already 40 people you need 180-40=140 people

I do not understand this.
1) I don't see why we need 90 * 2 people to complete the job in 50 days. I might agree with 90 * 40 / 50 people.
2) The extra people that are hired will not be working for the first 30 days.


Based on my interpretation of the question, I have updated the answer to 80. If you think the answer should be 140, please comment and explain why.
