A Lunch Date

Chemistry Level 1

You go out to lunch one day and order a giant steak and a baked potato with sour cream. You ask for the nutritional information, and find out your lunch contains 51 g 51\text{ g} of carbohydrates, 29 g 29\text{ g} of protein, and 40 g 40\text{ g} of fat. Does this lunch have a balanced energy ratio? If not, what macronutrient should be increased ?

Carbohydrates: 51 g 17 k J / g = 867 k J 51 g * 17 kJ/g = 867 kJ

Protein: 29 g 17 k J / g = 493 k J 29 g * 17 kJ/g = 493 kJ

Fats: 40 g 38 k J / g = 1520 k J 40 g * 38 kJ/g = 1520 kJ

Total Energy: 867 + 493 + 1520 = 2880 k J 867+493+1520=2880 kJ

Carbohydrate percentage: 867 / 2880 100 = 30 % 867/2880*100=30 \%

Protein percentage: 493 / 2880 100 = 17 % 493/2880*100=17 \%

Fat percentage: 1520 / 2880 100 = 53 % 1520/2880*100=53 \%

Ideal energy ratio: 55% carbohydrates : 15% protein : 30% fat, so for this meal, the energy supplied by carbohydrates is too low and the percentage from fat is too high.

Yeah, just wash those fats&proteins with some soda, ketchup, sugar and bread and see how fast you can to reach Type2 Diabetes. As you can see, you already have enough energy for a meal. We're not even talking about digestion, insulin, enzymes and how much you will waste. Just read "How Not to Die" , No.1 on Amazon at its category ought say enough. There are some crazy myths around that huge level of KJoules. Do you even know what a Joule is ? The modern man sits 8 hours at work in a chair, comes home for more hours bent on TV screen and after he sleeps on horizontal ! Next day, he wash(hopefully), eats chaotically and DRIVE his car to work ! Yeah, I'm not speaking about malnourished African people that have to walk 15 km daily just for water ...
