A classical mechanics problem by Harshit Sahu

A uniform chain of length L and mass M is lying on a smooth table and 1/3rd of its length is hanging vertically down over the edge of the table. If g is the acceleration due to gravity, the minimum work required to pull the hanging part on the table is :-

Using conservation of energy we get,

W = M 3 g L 6 W=\frac { M }{ 3 } g\frac { L }{ 6 }
