A classical mechanics problem by Masmarika Mohan

The edge of aluminium tube is 10cm long. One face of the cube is firmly fixed to a verticle wall a mass of 100kg ,is then attached to the opposite face of cube. The shear modulus of aluminium is 25 GPa. What is the vertical deflection of this face?

3.92×〖10〗^7 m 0.392×〖10〗^7 m 39.2×〖10〗^(-7) m 3.92×〖10〗^(-7) m

Assume, Deflection =D

Side Length =L=10cm

Shear Modulus =S=25GPa

P=Applied pressure =Weight/Area= ( 100 × 9.8 ) / ( 10 × 1 0 2 ) 2 (100 \times 9.8)/(10 \times 10^{-2})^2 Pa

So, Deflection, D= P S L \frac{\text{P}}{\text{S}}\text{L}

= 3.92 × 1 0 7 m =3.92 \times 10^{-7}m

So simple, isn't it!
