A classical mechanics problem by pulkit singh

A body of mass 1kg is suspended from a weightless spring having force constant 600N/m. Another body of mass 0.5kg moving vertically upwards hits the suspended body with a velocity of 3m/s and get embedded in it . Find the frequency of oscillations . If your answer is d/3.14 , find d.

f = 1 2 π k m f=\dfrac{1}{2\pi}\sqrt{\dfrac{k}{m}} = 1 2 π 600 1.5 =\dfrac{1}{2\pi}\sqrt{\dfrac{600}{1.5}} = 10 π =\dfrac{10}{\pi}
