A meeting with bilingual people.

Logic Level 2

Ann, John, Tom and Bethany are having a meeting. After the meeting, they introduce themselves to others. We know that:

  • Any person can speak only 2 languages out of 4 languages: French, English, Russian and Italian.
  • Ann can speak French but can't speak Italian.
  • John can speak Russian but can't speak Italian. Moreover, he can translate for Ann and Tom.
  • Bethany can't speak both French and English, but she can talk to Ann without translating.

Who can speak both English and Italian?

Bonus: Who can speak which 2 languages?

Bethany Tom No one can. Ann John

1 solution

Ann can speak French . John can speak Russian . Bethany can speak Italian and Russian and can speak to Ann without translating which means that Ann can speak both French and Russian . Tom can speak Italian and English because he can not communicate directly with Ann. So John knows Russian and English as he needs to know a language that Tom knows so he can translate it to Ann.

  • Ann speaks French and Russian
  • John speaks Russian and English
  • Tom speaks English and Italian
  • Bethany speaks Italian and Russian
