One, two , three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen... no A. Twenty, thirty, fourty, fifty, sixty, seventy, eighty, ninety... no A. Therefore all numbers from 20 - 99 will not have an A. Hundred (numbers from 100 - 999 will not have an A), thousa- oh, an A. Therefore the first number would be 1000 \boxed{1000} .

It's a kind of Maths GK that - No numbers below 1000 have a vowel "a" in it.

I came to know about it in brain games , when the host asked some people to tell 50 words without 'a' in it in 20 seconds .

One could argue that 101 is "one hundred AND one", so it would contain an 'a'.
