Let John works for r r hours on regular basis and 172 r 172-r hours overtime. Then

114 ( 172 r ) 57 r = 15 100 r = 160 \dfrac{114(172-r)}{57r}=\dfrac{15}{100}\implies r=160 hours and 172 r = 12 172-r=\boxed {12} hours.
