In Class A, 15 students participate in the science club. 18 students participate in the math club. 3 students participate in both clubs. How many students are in the class?

The students that participate in both clubs are being counted twice. Therefore, the formula for this equation is AUB (U equals union) equals A plus B minus A intersect B (The intersect sign is an upside down U). So 15 plus 18 minus 3 equals 30. The best way to solve this is to make a Venn diagram.
