A cube is painted blue on all faces. It is cut into 125 smaller cubes of equal size. How many cubes are painted on one face only ?

Consider one face of the big cube as shown on my diagram. There are nine smaller cubes painted on one face only. Since the big cube has six faces, the number of small cubes painted on one face only is 9 × 6 = 9 \times 6 = 54 \boxed{54}
