if he usually buy it for X X

and usually sell it for X + . 08 X = X + .08X = 1.08 X 1.08X

then he bought it for : 1 . 05 X = 1-.05X = 0.95 X 0.95X

and sold it for : 1.08 X 36 1.08X - 36

Just apply the equation : 1.08 X 36 . 95 X . 95 X = \frac{1.08X - 36 - .95X}{.95X} = 12.5 100 \frac{12.5}{100}

then X = 3200 X = 3200

Suppose z is ans. Then our equation will be.. 1.08z-36=(0.95z)(1.125) By solving this we get z=3200
