Which of the following equations given contains the points ( 1 , 1 ) (1, -1) and ( 3 , 5 ) (3, 5) ?

y = 3 x + 4 y = 3x + 4 y = 3 x + 4 y = -3x + 4 2 y = 6 x 8 2y = 6x - 8 2 y 6 x = 0 -2y -6x = 0

m = 5 ( 1 ) 3 1 = 2 \displaystyle m = \frac{5 - (-1)}{3 - 1} = 2

y = 3 x + b \displaystyle y = 3x + b

5 = 3 ( 3 ) + b \displaystyle 5 = 3(3) + b

b = 4 \displaystyle b = - 4

y = 3 x 4 \displaystyle y = 3x - 4 , or

2 y = 6 x 8 2y = 6x - 8

The answer is 2y = 6x -8 for obvious reasons, as you guys or girls figured out.

You can check (1,-1) and eliminate all but one answer, then check that one. Better designed options would have helped.
