Let $F$ and $S$ be the present ages of the father and his son, respectively.

$F=3S$ $\color{#D61F06}(1)$

$F+30=24+(S+30)$ $\implies$ $S=F-24$ $\color{#D61F06}(2)$

Substitute $\color{#D61F06}(2)$ in $\color{#D61F06}(1)$ .

$F=3(F-24)$

$72=3F-F$

$\boxed{F=36}$
