The ratio of the number of stamps to the number of postcards Calvin had was 5:1.When he gave 1/2 his stamps and 1/3 of his postcards to his brother, he had 286 more stamps than postcard left. How many postcards did Calvin give his brother.

Let x= # of Stamps, y = # of postcards, then x = 5 y

1/2 x - 2/3 y = 286,

Solving for y we get y = 156.

1/3 y = 52
