a is the first letter so a+a+a+a=1+1+1+1=4 d is the fourth letter. now d+d+d=4+4+4=12 and l is the 12th letter.

Who let little children write ridiculously stupid math problems. This isn't math. This is just sophomoric behavior.

You should have specified that you were saying the order of the alphabet's letters corresponded to the amount of each letter's value , otherwise 'd+d+d' could equal '\infty'
