In a basket, there are 10 oranges, a dozen apples and 8 pears. If Donald randomly takes out two fruits from the bag one after the other, what is the chance that neither of the fruits is an apple?

Number of fruits in the basket = 10 + 12 + 8 = 30. Number of fruits which are not apples = 10 + 8 = 18.

In the first pick, probability of not getting an apple = 18/30

In the second pick, chances of not getting an apple = 17/29

Therefore, the probability of not getting an apple in both the picks = 18/30x17/29

= 0.3517, which is approximately 35%.
