A QUEER CONVERSATION

Level pending

A says to B " I have 3 sons. Can you guess their ages?... OK I will give you a clue: product of their ages is 36." B replies"That's not possible. give me another clue." A says" Your second clue: sum of their ages is equal to your house address."(consider the address to be integral like 24,56 etc. NOT 24A,36B) B replies" Almost got it...but wait I need another small information." A replies "Your last clue: My elder son is a good chess player." B jumps up and says" I got it." He gave the answer which was absolutely correct. CAN YOU TELL WHAT WAS THE AGE OF THE ELDER SON????

The answer is 9.

The logic lies in the fact that B needed the 3rd clue..put urself in B's shoes...he could easily factorise 36 got the combinations added them&one which equalled his house address was the rt one. But he needed the 3rd hint..ie he faced an confusion. Now 9+2+2=13&6+6+1=13..only 2cases where sum is same..so had it been any other no he would hve said the ans but as he couldnt it must hve been one of these 2..Now as soon as he was given the clue elder son 6,6,1 case was rejected&the ans was ovio 9,2,2
