A risky run

The CTL company operates a shipping line of space cargo vehicles on the trading route between Terra and Halcyon. But they use old, outdated equipment. As a result, 1% of the time the ship explodes on the launch pad, and if it gets off the planet successfully, 1 time out of 11 the radiation shield fails on the spot and the crew are killed by solar x-rays within a day of clearing the planet's atmosphere.

If they manage to successfully get into deep space, the dangers for the crew members don't end there. 1 out of every 9 ships making the deep-space run are captured en route by Borthudian pirates.

The ship Wayne Neutron failed to arrive at Halcyon. What are the chances its crew has been captured and enslaved by Borthudian pirates?

Express as a percentage to two decimal places (i.e., if you think the chances are 5.28%, type in 5.28)

The answer is 50.00.

Consider 100 ships. 1 of them blows up on the launch pad. Of the 99 remaining, 9 more (1 out of 11) have the crew fried by radiation.

Of the 90 that make it to deep space, 10 (1 out of every 9) are captured by pirates.

So of the 20 ships that fail to make it, 10 are captured by pirates. 10/20 = 1/2 = 50.00%.
