Lola and Sam are both going to London, but on different trains. It takes a train 2 hours to get to London without any stops. Both of the trains arrive at Lola and Sam's station at 3:00 pm and stay at the station for 5 minutes.
Lola's train stops at three stations, staying at each one for 5 minutes, before it gets to London. Lola gets off at the second station, right after the train stops, but doesn't make it back on time, and so she has to wait for another train. Sam's train stops at only one station before London for 10 minutes.
Given that Lola arrives half an hour after Sam does, what time does Sam arrive, and how long did Lola wait for another train?
Note: Lola was travelling for one hour when she got off.

The options in the panel should've been trickier :)

I mean YOUNGER kids. My brother's on here and he's 10.
I have solved it somehow and hope they reached safely!
Lola went out of the 2nd Station so her Train already waited 10 minutes same as Sam's Train
Sam's Train 3:00 + 0:05 + 2:00 + 0:10 = 5:15 Lola's Train x = 5:45 - 0:10 - 2:00 - 0:05 - 3:00 = 0:30
Sam's Train arived at 5:15 and Lola waited for 30minutes!
Sam waited for 5 minutes and at another station for 10 minutes so total time 3.00PM+2hrs+15min = 5.15 minutes. Lola reached at 5.45pm and she waited 3station for 15 minutes and said sttatio for 5.45pm-3pm-15min = 40 minutes.
Idid it :)
I just calculated the same thing in my mind and solved it its very simple and just a case of commonsense
well
i solved it :) newbie :3
OK!! I thought it so!!
...................
I am right
yeah i diid the same its very simple question i think so
b
But how Lola waited for fourty minutes?
The options were easy enough to decide from
Archiet dev is right
But for this ans.. Lola should reach at 5:45 as she is reaching aftre sam by 30 mins
But if she is waiting for 40 mins den
She leave her station at 3:05 and 3 stops of 5 min includes 15 mins and 2hours travling and plus 40 mins waitng should be same as 5:45
Bt its 6:00
So correct ans is sam reach at 5:15 and lola waited for 25 mins.
Guys read the question carefully .it is askd dat how much time lola is waiting for 2nd train at her 2nd stop..
Its OK with SAM but lola has to wait for 30 mins
Sam leaves at 3:05 pm His waiting time at station 10 mins Given that train takes 2 hrs to reach London, Sam reaches London at 5:15 pm (i.e. 3:05 + 10 mins + 2 hrs)
Lola leaves at 3:05 pm. She reaches the 2nd station at 4:05 pm Note: she traveled 1 hr before the second station and reached half hr after Sam, i.e. at 5:45 pm, Lola waits for 40 mins for the next train to arrive i.e. 5:45 - 4:05 = 40 mins
same Simply ,Keep Lola out from whole question.
Train arrived at- 3:00
Waited there -0:05
Total time now- 3:05
(Stated in question) Time taken to reach London without stops -2:00
Now Sam may arrive on -3:05 + 2:00
=5:05
But it had stop of 10 minutes,Thus adding 0:10 to it
or
5:05 + 0:10=5:15
So this is the only option in panel ,where Sam could reach at 5:15,
Then,The answer must be - Sam arrived at 5:15 pm. Lola waited for 40 minutes
Actually lola started waiting for train after she lost her train at 4:15 and the answer comes out to be 30 mins.
rain arrived at- 3:00

full hawa writing to solution to combinatrics
let the train in which sam boards be T2........ now T2 reaches the station @3:00pm..... given that,it stops for 5 mins...... so,the train starts @3:05 pm...... and ,it stops @ 1 stop for 10 min.... and the time taken to reach london= 2 hrs.......... therefore,, total time taken =2 hrs 10mins........... here,3:05+2 hrs 10mins=5:15 pm
exactly the same.. sam reached at 5:15 pm and lola waited for 40 mins
Focus only on Sam's Trip.
We given That Trains arrives at Same Time at
03:00 pm+ 5 min( Time train waited at a stop) + 2 Hr (Travelling time with no stop) = 5:05 pm
We also given that train stops only for 10 min once during the trip therefore
Arrival time for same = 5.05 pm + 10 min = 5:15 pm. Then the answer is : Sam arrived at 5:15 pm. Lola waited for 40 minutes..
First calculate time taken by Sam in reaching London by adding 5min+10min+2hrs=2.15min meaning that she left at 3 pm, train took her 2 hrs 15 min to reach London at 5.15 pm. Lola reached at 5.45 meaning that train departed at 3.05 pm, and his transit time was 2 hrs .40 minutes. Taking out journey time of 2 hours, he is supposed to have spent 40 minutes till he got the next train.
train arrives at 5:15and lola waited for 40 minutes4
I just calculate Sam's arrival time and... boom, answer.
Write a comment or ask a question... both train will reach at the same time 5:15pm and loha wait for 40 mins
I simply solved the time Sam arrived..haha..
3:00 (train arrived)+0:05 (train stop)+0:10(another train stop)+2:00(2 hours to get to London)=5:15
The options are too complex to mark an incorrect answer
simply, Sam`s train leave station at 3:05 and make one stop for 10 mints and from sam location London is 2 hour travel away continuously , so it should be reach at London station 5:15 PM, Now simply look in answer there is no second choice of 5:15PM. so this is answer and answer calculate Lola arrival time for us, ::)

At SAM.. 03:00 + 00:05 +00:10 = 5:15PM
at LOLA, 3station included the station of lola. lola get off at nxt train thats the 2nd train.. so in the 3rd station lola rech the london.. lola arrive at 5:45PM 5:45 - 2:00 - 00:05 = 3:40. 40min. lola waited.
since sam's train reaches London within two hours with 10 minutes in a station in between and 5 minutes initially hence time taken by sams train to reach London is 5:15 Pm. And lola waited for 40 minutes in the station
Sam's train started at 3:05 and reached london at 5:15 considering 2 hrs journey and 10 min stop.
Lola arrives at 5:45 (half an hour later) her train started at 3:05. So she should have reached by 5:05. So she waited for 40 min.
3:05 train starts .. lola gets off her train @4:10 she has another 1 hr 10 min to go including the halt time the train takes that means she should have reached @5:20 pm but got delayed till 5:45 .. so she had to wait 25 min for the train if the train had to halt once.. if not... then it will be 30 min... i don't understand this part
