Abhay lent me some amount of money 3 years ago. If what I owe him now amounts to Rs.127 taking into consideration the simple interest of 9% per annum, find the amount of money that he lent me.


The answer is 100.

Let the principal amount be Rs. P \text{P} , rate of interest be R % \text{R}\% per annum, T \text{T} be the time period and A \text{A} be the amount, then:-
A = PRT 100 + P 127 = P × 9 × 3 100 + P 127 = 27 P 100 + P 127 = 127 P 100 P = 127 × 100 127 = 100 \begin{aligned} \text{A} & = \dfrac{\text{PRT}}{100} + \text{P}\\ \\ 127 & = \dfrac{\text{P} × 9 × 3}{100} + \text{P}\\ \\ 127 & = \dfrac{27\text{P}}{100} + \text{P}\\ \\ 127 & = \dfrac{127\text{P}}{100}\\ \\ \text{P} & = \dfrac{127 × 100}{127}\\ \\ & = \color{#3D99F6}{\boxed{100}} \end{aligned}

Let the initial amount of money be x x

The simple interest is given as 0.09 x 0.09x

The total amount of loan, A n A_n after n n years for a simple interest loan is given as

A n = x + 0.09 x n A_n = x + 0.09xn

A 3 = 127 x + 0.09 x ( 3 ) = 127 x + 0.27 x = 127 1.27 x = 127 x = 100 A_3 = 127\\ x+0.09x(3) = 127\\ x+0.27x=127\\ 1.27x=127\\ x=\boxed{100}

Note: The amount of money after n n years for simple interest follows an arithmetic progression
