(4+9i) + (5 + i)
= 4 + 5 + 9i + i = 9 + 10 i comparing the real and imaginary terms of ( 9 + 10 i) with (a + b i) we find; a= 9 & b= 10 Hence, a + b = 9 + 10 = 19
