After what time do these cars meet ?

Level pending

Two cars A and B leave places X and Y at 1PM. The distance between X and Y is 300 kilometers. The speed of car A is 40 km/hour whereas the speed of car B is 60 km/hr. Both cars have fuel to last 150 kilometers after which they stop to refuel. It takes 10 mins to refuel and they resume on their journey after the refelling break. At what time do both the cars meet ?.

4:30 PM 4:00 PM 3:54 PM 4:06 PM

Car 2 covers 150 km in 2.5 hours at 3:30 Stops to refuel at 3:30 for 10 mins IN 160/60 hours car 1 covers 106.7 kms. In order for car 1 to refuel it has to be in motion for another 43.3 kms. But since Car 2 leaves the midway spot (150kms) at 3:40 pm we need to find out at what distance after refuelling will the two cars meet. So x/40 = (43.3 - x)/60; 43.3 - x = 3x/2; 86.6 = 5x ; x = 17.32kms.

So car1 has covered 124.02 kms and car 2 has covered 150 + (43.3 - 17.32) = 175.98kms when they meet.

The time taken for car1 to cover 124.02 kms is 3.1005 hours or 186.03 mins. We can verify that car2 covers 176 kms 150 kms in 2.5 hrs + 10mins break + 26 kms in 26 mins.

Since they leave at 1PM they meet after 3.1005 hours or at 4:06 PM.
