Nitrogen gas ( N X 2 ) is injected into potato chip bags to keep the chips safe from physical impact. The reason nitrogen is used is because nitrogen has very low reactivity, and can prevent the chips from rotting. Also, since nitrogen composes 78% of our atmosphere, it is very easy to obtain.
