Firstly, replace all "b's" with 2a (b=2a)

a+b=x is now 3a=x

Since the square root of x = ±a we can conclude that x must be 9

This means a = 3

Now we have to find x+a+b

This is now simple addition.

3(3)=9 (3a=x)

9+9=18

a = 3 a=3 is not the only solution to a 2 = 3 a a^2=3a ...
