If Era gives ones apple to Bob, then they will have each the same number of apples. In equation, it is
E − 1 = B + 1
or it can be written as
B = E − 2
If Bob gives one apple to Era, then Era will have 5 times more than Bob. In equation, it is
5 ( B − 1 ) = E + 1
Substitute B = E − 2 to the above equation. We have
5 ( B − 2 ) = E + 1
5 ( E − 1 − 2 ) = E + 1
5 ( E − 3 ) = E + 1
5 E − 1 5 = E + 1
4 E = 1 6
E = 4
