First of all we see we have the 9 carbon straight chain as the longest continuous chain possible. For this chain we have methyl group as the only substituent. On starting numbering from both the ends, we find that the lowest number which the substituent can get is 4 (the other one is 5). So we will start our name with 4-Methyl....... Now since word root of 9 carbon chain is ''non'' and we add ''ane'' in the end for alkanes.....so combining we get the IUPAC name for the compound to be 4-Methyl Nonane.

Brilliant answer. (y)
