Given : x + y x + y = 2
( x + y ) 2 (x + y)^2 = 4 , Squaring both the sides
x 2 + 2 x y + y 2 x^2 + 2xy + y^2 = 4
2 + 2 x y 2 + 2xy = 4 ( x 2 + y 2 = 2 x^2 + y^2 = 2 )
2 x y = 2 2xy = 2
x y = 1 xy = 1
