To find for the sum of the coefficients, substitute 1 1 for each variable, then simplify

( 2017 x 2016 y ) 2017 (2017x-2016y)^{2017}

= [ ( 2017 ) ( 1 ) ( 2016 ) ( 1 ) ] 2017 =[(2017)(1)-(2016)(1)]^{2017}

= ( 2017 2016 ) 2017 =(2017-2016)^{2017}

= 1 2017 =1^{2017}

= 1 =1
