Algebra Level 3

In an atlas, a map occupies 2 5 \frac{2}{5} of a page with dimensions 25 cm and 30 cm respectively. If real area of the map is 10800 sq. m, the scale to which the map is drawn, is??

1 cm = 12 m 1 cm = 6 m 1 cm = 36 m 1 cm = 18 m

Area of map on atlas is 2 5 × 25 × 30 = 300 c m 2 \frac{2}{5} \times 25 \times 30 = 300cm^2 so area scale factor is 10800 300 = 36 \frac{10800}{300} = 36 so linear scale factor is 36 = 6 \sqrt{36} =6 so ratio is 1:6

( 2 5 ) ( 25 x ) ( 30 x ) = 10800 (\frac{2}{5})(25x)(30x) = 10800

x = 6 x = \boxed{6}

1 c m = 6 m 1cm = 6 m
