let d A d_A =distance traveled by Car A at time t t

and d B d_B =distance traveled by Car B at time t t

we know that d = V t d=Vt , so d A d_A = = 40 t 40t and d B d_B = = 60 t 60t

from the figure,

d A d_A + + d B = 240 d_B=240

40 t + 60 t = 240 40t+60t=240

t = 2.4 t=2.4 h o u r s hours o r or 2 2 h o u r s hours a n d and 24 24 m i n u t e s minutes

t i m e = 8 : 00 + 2 time=8:00+2 h o u r s hours a n d and 24 24 m i n u t e s = 10 : 24 minutes=10:24 A . M . A.M.
