profit= 2(loss), ( SP-CP )=2( CP-SP), (800-CP)=2(CP-500), 3CP=1800 CP=600, If the article is sold at profit, profit %=(profit/cp)x 100, (200/600)x100=33.33%

Let item value be x. let the amount gained or lost be P. x + 2 P = 800 , x P = 500 x+2P=800, x-P=500 Solving simultaneous equations gives P = 100 , x = 600 200 600 × 100 = 33.33 P=100, x=600 \Rightarrow \frac{200}{600} \times 100 = 33.33 %

Let original price be x rupees. Hence, loss = x - 500 According to problem statement, x + 2(x - 500) = 800 3x = 1800 x = 600 profit = 200 % profit = 33.33%
