Algebra Level pending

Half a herd of deer are grazing in the field and three fourths of the remaining are playing near by. The rest 9 are drinking water from the pond. Find the number of deer in the herd.

If half are grazing in the field then the other half must be playing or drinking.

1/2 * 3/4 = 3/8

Therefore 1/8 = 9

9*8=72 deer

Let the number of deers in the herd is 'x'; Half of this is 'x/2' and then remaining are 'x/2' in number so 3/4 of remaining means (3/4)(x/2) which becomes 3x/8 so; so x/2+3x/8+9=x which implies x=72; Therefore,the number of deers in the herd is 72
