When they meet, they cover 54km of distance in total.

B covers 5/12 x 54 = 22.5km

Let the distance from Y to Z be x.

Since A covers (27-x) kms and B covers (27+x)kms in the same time, We can frame the equation as,

(27-x)/5=(27+x)/7

7(27-x)=5(27+x)

189-7x=135+5x

12x=54

x=4.5kms

Therefore the distance from X to Z = 27-4.5 = 22.5kms.

And we are done. Phew! Hope this solution explained it all correctly.
